TECDIS is an IMO-approved ECDIS, known for its exceptional user-friendliness. It features a highly efficient route planning and monitoring tool, with optional overlays such as radar and weather overlays, as well as AIO (ADMIRALTY Information Overlay). A TECDIS system consisting of two TECDIS units can be installed in compliance with paperless navigation requirements. Chart updates can be configured for online updating and an efficient one-click chart loading.

TECDIS is available in several versions and can be delivered either as a processor with display or as a panel PC. All models are IMO type-approved and run the same software. The TECDIS 2139 model is especially well-suited for the offshore shipping fleet, typically with DNV NATU class or other higher notations, and thus with requirements for conning.

Conning requires input from multiple external systems to present sensor data on screen. TECDIS 2139 includes 12 COM ports for connecting external equipment. Additional ports can also be supported within the type approval.

TECDIS conning is customized for the vessel. All TECDIS conning systems delivered by us are approved by DNV GL.

TECDIS 2139 is our largest model, ideal for vessels with higher class notations requiring conning.

TECDIS TRAINING AND FAMILIARIZATION

Approved ECDIS training is required, along with documentation confirming that sufficient training and familiarization on the specific ECDIS model installed onboard has been completed. The exact requirements may vary depending on the operation type and sailing area. Relevant flag states may have specific requirements related to the vessel’s sailing region.

Our training partner NTNU Ocean Training offers:

  • Type-specific ECDIS training for TECDIS (available only in Norwegian) - This course provides an introduction to the use of TECDIS for paperless navigation in accordance with applicable regulations. Delivered as a standard classroom course, with the option to request a customized digital solution.
  • Superuser training tailored to customer needs.
    The course can be delivered as a classroom course, with the option for a customized setup at the customer’s location.
  • Various forms of bridge familiarization in simulator environments including TECDIS and other Furuno equipment.
  • Courses are held at NTNU Ocean Training’s facilities in Ålesund.

USEFUL FEATURES AND PRESENTATION LAYERS

TECDIS is a type-approved ECDIS delivered for all vessel types subject to ECDIS requirements, regardless of segment. It is well liked due to its user-friendly interface, with functionality tailored specifically to navigation and operations common in the Norwegian fleet. The interface is efficient and intuitive, with smart solutions that reduce the number of clicks. Navigators also have access to many helpful features beyond what is required by the IMO ECDIS standard.

Less administrative work with charts

TECDIS chart administration is a good example of how administrative tasks related to chart subscriptions and regular updates can be significantly reduced and streamlined.

TECDIS offers a unique integration of official ENCs and commercial charts. This means the navigator experiences seamless use of advanced chart functions and global chart coverage, even in areas where official charts are not available.

TECDIS supports ENC display in the following formats:

  • S-57 edition 3
  • S-63 edition 1.0 og 1.1
  • C-Map CM93/3 (ENC, ENC+ og Professional+)

Official chart information can be combined with user data and real-time sensor information.

Selected chart services from Navtor, ChartCo, C-Map, and Nautisk Forlag can utilize TECDIS's online chart installation features for update notifications and one-click chart loading.

TECDIS ROUTE PLANNING IS SIMPLE AND EFFICIENT

TECDIS features unique route planning capabilities. It can generate a route proposal between two user-selected ports. The function uses a library of pre-approved waypoints and route legs. Settings and user-defined constraints can be configured to force the system to select a safe route based on vessel characteristics and desired safety margins.

Various overlays can be highly useful during both planning and navigation.
AIO (Admiralty Information Overlay service by UKHO) and AIS chart overlay are included in the standard license. Other overlays are available via TELCARE:

  • Radar echo overlay from Furuno radar.
  • Navtex messages with position reference.
  • Position data from up to 24 seismic streamers can be displayed on the chart.
  • Weather overlay in the chart. Weather forecasts are provided as a subscription service from a commercial provider (C-Map).
  • Alerts for increased risk of maritime crime in a region.
  • Piracy alerts.
