Aqua Scope
Aqua Scope has the capacity to perform calculations on up to 20,000 fish every day, consistently and with high precision, regardless of weather conditions, lighting conditions, and water turbidity. This provides continuously updated estimates on average growth and simultaneously valuable insight into how fish weight varies over time, and at different depths in the pen.
Key Features
- Hydroacoustic monitoring
- Observation of fish throughout the entire cage depth
- High precision regardless of light and visibility conditions
- Compact solution that does not disturb the fish
- Easy installation
- Reliable operation
- Low maintenance
Since 1948, Furuno has delivered advanced hydroacoustic solutions for fish detection and catch control to the world’s fishing nations. The progress has been immense — from the first relatively simple echo sounders to today’s highly sophisticated sonars with exceptional detection capabilities and 3D presentations that make complex information easily accessible. Furuno Norge is proud to have significantly contributed to this development, with our unique expertise in hydroacoustics and strong collaboration with the Norwegian fishing fleet.
Aqua Scope is our solution for aquaculture. In this system, we have combined advanced hydroacoustics with the dimensions of biology and machine learning. We are now bringing our groundbreaking technology into the aquaculture segment.
MONITORS GROWTH AND BEHAVIOR
Aqua Scope is specifically developed and adapted to meet the unique needs of salmon farming observation. The system includes features that provide excellent control over biomass growth and additionally monitors behavior, offering unique insight into fish health and welfare.
Aqua Scope has the capacity to perform calculations on a very high number of fish each day, consistently and with high precision, regardless of weather, lighting, or water clarity. This provides continuously updated estimates of average growth and valuable insight into how weight varies over time and at different depths in the cage.
Detailed insight into weight distribution is crucial for understanding the actual condition of the biomass and, for example, optimize feeding strategies.
By combining our unique expertise in advanced hydroacoustics, marine biology, and machine learning, we improve measurement accuracy. Our approach enables unique insights not only into average weight but also into weight distribution and biomass variation over time. By tracking and better understanding these dynamics, farmers can make more precise decisions that directly impact both production efficiency and fish welfare.

Real-time observation with Aqua Scope. The system’s hydroacoustic sensor operates optimally regardless of weather, lighting, and visibility conditions. Aqua Scope thus provides high-precision, consistent data collection and can present critical information for efficient management and optimization of farming operations, such as average weight, weight distribution, and swimming depth.
Easy Installation and Quick Startup
Aqua Scope features a compact design to ensure easy installation and minimal disturbance to the fish. Installation and startup are plug-and-play, and observation begins immediately. Within just a few hours, information about biomass and behavior can be presented. Aqua Scope integrates easily with existing systems using a web API.
The echo sounder itself is housed in a waterproof case attached to the cage using the included bracket. The case contains all necessary electronics for processing and for distributing compressed data to the cloud.
The sensor package is enclosed in a robust housing that can be mounted at the surface for conventional cages or lowered to greater depths for submersible cages.
The capsule is attached to a small buoy at the surface or secured to cage structures if available. The sensor is positioned one meter below the surface and reads all biomass passing by the sensor across the entire cage depth.

Aqua Scope is easy to install and quickly operational. Observation starts immediately.
