EAN: IMD0348300A
Stock:

The Furuno FCV-38 is a powerful, fully stabilized echo sounder that utilizes both multi-beam and split-beam technology. Combined with a low operating frequency and high transmission power, the FCV-38 provides rich datasets, long detection range, excellent target discrimination, and effective noise filtering. Data export to NetCDF4 format is available. The transducer from the previous model, the FCV-30, can be reused for retrofit installations.

Fully Stabilized Split-Beam Echosounder with 5 Independent Beams

  • 4 kW transmit power and 38 kHz frequency for long-range detection
  • Large transducer with 64 elements
  • 5 beams can be operated independently with up to 20º tilt
  • Integrated motion sensor provides pitch and roll stabilization
  • Heave compensation available when connected to satellite compass
  • 3 simultaneous graphs for size distribution analysis
  • FCV-30 transducer can be reused in retrofit installations

Fully Stabilized Echosounder with 5 Independent Beams

The FCV-38 is the successor to our popular low-frequency echo sounder, the FCV-30. For retrofit installations, existing FCV-30 transducers can be reused. Operating at a low frequency of 38 kHz with a high transmission power of 4 kW, the FCV-38 offers a long detection range of up to 1500 meters. The echo sounder utilizes split-beam technology and features five beams that can be directed as needed, with up to 20° tilt. This provides a rich dataset suitable for advanced analysis and a noise-free presentation with accurate echo reproduction.

The FCV-38 is fully stabilized, equipped with an integrated MRU (Motion Reference Unit) for pitch and roll compensation. Heave compensation is achieved by connecting a satellite compass. Full stabilization is essential for reliable bottom analysis and accurate assessment of fish size and size distribution.

With a detection range of up to 1500 meters and consistently high data quality at all depths, the FCV-38 provides ample performance margin for all types of fisheries. For vessels contributing to research, the FCV-38 can export datasets in CDF4 format, enabling complete and research-grade measurements suitable for advanced scientific analysis.

FCV-38 Multibeam Technologi

The FCV-38 features five independent beams that can be freely enabled or disabled. A new addition in the FCV-38 is the semi-simultaneous transmission mode, where only selected beams transmit at the same time. This increases the power per beam while reducing the risk of noise caused by beam-to-beam interference.

FCV-38 Stabilization

Split-beam technology enables pitch and roll stabilization. The FCV-38 uses a large transducer with 64 individual elements—each forming a channel for pulse transmission and echo reception. The stabilization algorithm treats TX and RX independently, enabling highly accurate imaging of the bottom and bottom structures. For optimal stabilization, the FCV-38 can be connected to a satellite compass for heave compensation.

Without pitch and roll stabilization, fish may go undetected.

Stabilization keeps the beams steady on the selected targets.

FCV-38 Size Distribution Analysis

Split-beam technology combined with full stabilization is critical for reliable fish size analysis. The FCV-38 can analyze an entire school or portions of it and display 3 simultaneous graphs based on 3 different sections of a fish school. Size distribution presentation is identical to that of the Furuno echosounder FSS-3BB.

Four Modes for Size Distribution

The FCV-38 offers four analysis modes for fish size distribution: across the entire detection range, within a specified range, fish located near the seabed, within a user-defined rectangle placed over f.ex.: part of a school. Up to three rectangles can be set simultaneously. Each rectangle and its corresponding graph are color-coded with matching frames, making it easy to identify which graph represents which section.
